A few months agone I installed ane of the 320R-RAC-02 racor fuel filters in my Cal 27 hoping to extend the life of my aged atomic 4 a bit longer. I'd like to bleed the h2o / junk out in the next few weeks but I'm not sure what to expect.

When I open the drain plug at the bottom should I shutoff the fuel intake?

Will just h2o drain from the plug or volition the gas come up forth with information technology until the whole unit is empty?

What do you guys normally practise with the gas/h2o mixture that you collect from the draining process?

Getting to the filter is kind of a pain in the ass. Anyone installed a bleed hose with a shutoff valve at the end in place of the standard plug to brand things easier? or is that only asking for trouble?

I use a ane quart glass canning jar as it allows the fuel to be looked at you should not get a big alluvion as the water earth exist first out

If its not to bad the Backyard Mower seems to exist able to burn it ITs a PITA to go rid of old gas around here so out in the sun is ane option for a tiny amount

When yous open the drain plug you will go water (if there is any in in that location) and fuel until the filter is mostly drained. I say generally, as when you eventually become to alter the filter, more than will come out later on you start to loosen the screw on filter.
Not sure exactly what your Raycor looks like, but the drain plugs on mine accept hose barbs and so yous can attach an extension hose for draining.
As for the bad fuel, the last time I topped off the tanks I had well-nigh a gallon of bad fuel that dockhand disposed of for me. It never hurts to enquire...

Don't shutoff the fuel intake to avert getting air in the lines and allow for easier period. Get a glass jar and place it under the bottom bleed and open the valve. Water and muck will come up out first and when y'all see clear fuel starting to come out shut the valve. Just clean up any spilage and you are washed. For disposal permit the jar balance for a few minutes and the line between fuel and water should be very defined. If it is a very small amount just let the jar sit and the gas volition evaporate first. If it is a larger amount you can suck information technology out with an old baster and put it back in the tank. Although information technology is a adept thought to connect a drain hose when draining the filter I would non leave it on and much less rely on a shutoff valve at the cease to command the flow. Fuel filters are required to be shielded or have the ability to withstand high temperatures. I would non gamble with a hose and its location meeting those requirements especially with gasoline.

Ziploc

I utilize a ziploc bag. You lot can wrap the whole handbag up over the filter to avoid whatever spillage and the clear plastic let'south you encounter the gunk, water, and fuel clearly. Of class dispose of properly just you shouldn't accept more than a few tablespoons, maybe a half a loving cup. To transfer to a jar with a hat you can employ scissors to cutting the corner of the ziploc to drain into a jar.

If you see water in the fluid which comes from the filter so know for sure there is more in your tank just waiting to stop your engine at the worst possible moment.

The fuel have off point is ordinarily an inch above the lowest point in the tank and so it doesn't suck upward all the rubbish which seems to get in there and this function is often completely full of h2o. This all gets stirred up equally you sail along and water gets drawn into the filter piddling by little. The rougher it is the more than the water comes through. (Delight don't ask!)

And then dip the tank if that is possible or insert a couple of anxiety of one/4" metal tube with a length of plastic tube attached to a minor transmission (NOT electric) pump and and poke it into the lowest role of the tank and come across what you tin pump out. Such pumps are bachelor very cheaply for manually pumping oil out of the engine.

If there is any water there it volition be necessary to completely drain the tank and suck out every concluding drop of water/fuel and then you lot accept a clean start. Remember h2o separator filters are the last ditch and should not be relied upon to cope continuously.
Where does the h2o come from - we buy it at gas prices - stories of 'condensation' oft grossly overstate the amount of water received in this way.

Thank you for all the advice guys.

Do you take the bleed plug all the way out when yous drain it or just far plenty to allow some h2o out?

Can just speak to how mine works, yours is probably the aforementioned. Should be able to open the bleed but enough to have fluid draining out and so tighten it support.

Thank you for all the communication guys.

Do you have the drain plug all the way out when you lot drain it or but far plenty to allow some water out?

All skilful advice y'all've received.
Having just recovered from major water intrusion into tank over wintertime (seems the fuel fill cap wasn't tight), I encourage engaging someone to 'smooth' the fuel if yous are concerned about the condition in the tank. My engine quit in an bad-mannered location which always seems to be the case when things go wrong.
I took 2-3 gal of water out, and over the next several trips drained off additional small amounts from the Racor ... at present standard practice is to drain Racor subsequently each trip just to be certain more than h2o hasn't stirred up from the lesser of the tank - then far then expert!
